Kaeltewelle/ arctic temperatures

Es ist gerade unheimlich kalt hier bei uns in Cleveland. Ich weiss, dass vor einer Woche oder so auch Deutschland in einer Kaeltewelle war. Als ich heute morgen mit meinem fabuloesen VW Jetta ins Buero bin hat meine digitale Temperaturanzeige 1 Grad Fahrenheit angezeigt. Das sind also so -18 Grad. Die Nachttemperatur soll -8 F sein (also -22 Grad Celsius). Ich bin uebrigens a bisserl mit meinem Jetta enttaeuscht, da ich naemlich nicht die Temperaturanzeige auf Celsius umstellen kann. Ich habe die "Anwendungsbroschuere" oder wie auch immer man das Jetta Buch nennt von hinten bis vorne gelesen und musste leider feststellen, dass VW fuer die Autos, die in die USA verkauft werden nur Fahrenheit angibt. Wo gibbet den sowas??? Eine Viertelstunde bevor ich mit den Kindern ins Auto gehe starte ich das Auto in der Garage, damit der Motor Zeit hat sich aufzuwaermen und damit die Innenkabinentemperatur halbwegs normal ist. Beide Kinder kriegen Nivea oder Florena ins Gesicht geschmiert, damit die Backen von der Kaelte nicht abfallen. Meine Florena Dose ist bald alle :-( Mal gucken, wo ich die naechste herkriege.

It is cold!!! It is so cold that it is almost kinda fun... well, not really... My good well engineered German VW Jetta showed a temperature of 1F this morning while driving to work. My goodness... I trust my Jetta to show the right temperature! I slather good German facial lotion (the really thick kind) onto my kids cheeks so as to prevent frostbites. It is especially important on Alex' cheeks because hers are bigger than normal leaving a larger surface area to treat :-) I turn on my car about 15 minutes before leaving the house so the car motor can warm up and so that there is a reasonable cabin temperature (gotta protect those cheeks). We have the most fabulous ice thingies hanging off of trees in our backyard and I will post a picture soon. In any case: I wish my readers a safe January and please stay warm!
