4 month check up doc visit / 4-Monats Besuch beim Kinderarzt

Gestern waren wir bei Alex' Kinderarzt zum 4-Monats check up. Sie wurde wie bei jedem Besuch gemessen und gewogen. Alex ist jetzt 22.5 inches lang (57cm) und 15 Pfund und 1.5 ounces schwer (6.9kg). In der Laenge ist Alex im 95. Prozentil (also nur 5 % aller Babies in ihrem Alter sind laenger als Alex) und in der Schwere ist sie im 75. Prozentil. Alex Aerztin ist sehr zufrieden. Soweit so gut. Der naechste Besuch wird sein, wenn sie 6 Monate alt ist. Leider wurde die Alex gestern auch geimpft. Eine Schluckimpfung und drei Impfungen in die Oberschenkel :-( Die arme Maus hat geschrien wie am Spiess. Ich habe sie aber sofort danach gefuettert (die Flasche gegeben) und dann hat es nicht lange gedauert fuer sie sich wieder zu beruhigen. Wir werden wohl auch bald anfangen Breichen zu fuettern. Ich habe zwar hier im Blog schon gesagt, dass wir Breichen gefuettert haben, ich habe aber damit wieder aufgehoert, als die Alex und wir alle krank geworden sind. Jetzt fangen wir wohl wieder an. Amelie ist gerade noch bis morgen bei Shawn's Mutter. Das fuehlt sich hier bei uns zu Hause wie Urlaub an. Die Kleine schlaeft bis so 9 Uhr morgens und der ganze Tag ist einfach nur erholsam. Amelie braucht eben doch eine Menge Unterhaltung und Aufsicht. Morgen kommt Amelie wieder nach Hause und da wird das Haus wieder lebendig!

Yesterday we took Alex to her 4 months check up. They measured her and she is now 22.5 inches (95th %ile) and 15.15 pounds (75th %ile). Her doctor is very happy with her progress and she says that Alex looks great - and I agree. She is healthy and happy and that is the main thing. Here is what confuses me: they measure her height in inches and her weight in pounds but her head is measured in cm. Any ideas why??? Why can't the US just change over to the metric system? Everything other than metric is a pain in the butt and to this day I have a hard time being able to visualize anything other than a metric measurement. I will never get used to it. But anyway... Alex also got some more vaccinations. One that she swallowed and three in her upper legs. Needless to say that she cried terribly and it breaks my heart to see her like this. But it needs done and I understand that. Amelie right now is with Grandma. She will be back tomorrow. It is like a vacation around here since Alex is so easy. We get up at around 9am and leisurely start the day. With Amelie it is somehow always go go go... But that is understandable - she is 5 after all.

As we say in Germany: slide well into the new year!!! (We do not wish a happy new year before it has not arrived because this is considered bad luck. The same is true for Birthdays: do not wish me a happy Birthday before my actual birthday - you are tempting bad luck and I might never make it to my happy birtday!!!)
