a day at the Cleveland Rainforest/ein Tag im Clevelander Regenwald

Since the weather sucks (as usual) we went to the Cleveland Zoo Rainforest since it is indoors. Enjoy some of our pictures we took of the animals there.
Das Clevelander Wetter ist wie ueblich im Februar furchtbar und deswegen sind wir heute im Cleveland Zoo Regenwald gegangen (es ist in einem Gebaeude) und wir hatten eine gute Zeit.

This orangutan got boogers out of his nose and then ate them - much to mine and Amelie's amusement!!! / Dieser Orang Utan hat Popel aus der Nase geholt und dann gegessen - Amelie und ich haben uns koestlich amuesiert!!!

When Amelie starts playing.../Wenn Amelie mit dem Spielen anfaengt...

Wenn Amelie zu spielen anfaengt, haelt sie nichts mehr auf. Sie hat ihr eigenes Zimmer in der zweiten Etage von unserem Haus aber das ist ihr zu einsam. Also schleppt sie ihre ganzen Spielzeuge zu uns ins Wohnzimmer und Esszimmer und da spielt sie also immer. Ich reaume staendig auf und staendig bringt sie fertig, das ganze Haus 'umzugestalten'. Da werden nicht nur normale Spielzeuge verwendet, sondern auch Schuesseln und anderses Zeug aus der Kueche. Ich bin haufig auf der Suche nach einer Schuessel, die ich dann Tage spaeter irgendwo im Wohnzimmer finde, weil in der Schuessel jetzt ihr Lieblingshund Woofy schlaeft. Da darf ich auch nichts anfassen - alles hat seine Ordnung. Freilich, irgendwann wird es mir zu viel und ich reaume alles auf aber es dauert nicht lange und Amelie hat das Wohnzimmer wieder so hergerichtet, wie sie es fuer richtig haelt.

Once Amelie starts playing it won't take long and the house looks like a tornado ran through. She has her own room but she is never in it because she does not want to be alone. So she has all her toys in our living and dining room and she is able within minutes to destroy a well ordered room and make it into her own creation. She also does not shy away from using props from our kitchen. I often am looking for a bowl or something else and later find that bowl in the living room being used as a 'bedroom' for her doggy. I am not allowed to touch anything because all has its order - even though it might not look like it for the untrained eye. Every now and then I can't stand it anymore and I need to clean it up. I really don't like waking up in the morning and having everything cluttered. Oh well...

Amelie's Halbjahreszeugnis/Amelie's half year report card

Amelie ist im Kindergarten, welches hier in der USA ein pflichtiges Schuljahr ist. Hier kommen alle Kinder mit 5 Jahren in die Schule. Amelie kriegt momentan nur zwei Noten: 'N' - needs improvement = benoetigt Verbesserung und 'S' - satisfactory = zufriedenstellen. Um so mehr 'S's sie hat um so besser. Hier ist was die Lehrerin sagt: "Amelie's malen ist wunderschoen. Sie braucht noch mehr Uebung beim Schneiden entlang einer Linie. Es hilft vielleicht, wenn sie mit einem Malbuch das Ausschneiden an einer Linie uebt. Sie muss auch daran ueben Zahlen zu erkennen (11-20). Sie brauchte letztlich mehrere Anmahnungen leise zu sein, ich bin jedoch sicher, dass sie das bald verbessern kann."Amelie hat fast alles "S" ausser in den folgenden "Faechern": Ausschneiden, Zaehlen, Nummererkennung, Computer (hoert nicht zu/folgt nicht den Instruktionen). Also bisher sind die Faecher echt ein wenig eigenartig aber ich nehme an, dass sich das in der ersten Klasse aendert. Also soweit so gut. Sie ist wohl nicht versetzungsgefaehrdet.

Amelie got her first 'report card' and she got mostly 'S' (satisfactory) and a couple of 'N's (needs improvement). This is what the teacher had to say on her report card: "Amelie's coloring is just beautiful. She does need practice cutting near or on a line. Using pictures in a coloring book may be helpful. She also needs practice in recognizing her numbers 11-20. She has needed several reminders to be quiet lately, which I am sure she will change." Here are the 'subjects' where she got an 'N': cutting, counts by rote (what does that mean???), recognizes numerals (not 'teen' numbers), computer (does not listen/follow directions). The rest she has all "S". Although there are a couple of 'S-" like: recognizes rhyming words and works without disturbing others. Apparently my shy Amelie who is afraid of EVERYTHING is a trouble maker in class and has no problem talking in class to her friends. Sometimes both Shawn and I wonder if she turns into a different person while in school or something. The good news is she will be able to move on to first grade. Not that I ever wondered about that but she is the youngest in her class. Cut off date was September 1 and her birthday is August 2. It will even be worse for Alex since her B-Day is not until August 23. Oh well...

Florida 2009

In preparation for our Florida 2009 trip we got the main accessory necessary: sun glasses! Amelie and I think Alex looks very cool and fashionable and will undoubtedly the coolest baby on the block!!! We will go in March. Considering what the weather has been like in Cleveland: I CANNOT WAIT!!!
In Vorbereitung fuer unseren Florida 2009 trip wir haben die Hauptsache besorgt: eine Sonnenbrille fuer Alex! Amelie und ich denken, dass damit die Alex wohl doch das coolste und modernste Baby sein wird! Wir fliegen im Maerz. Das Wetter hier in Cleveland war bisher echt furchtbar. Es war/ist unheimlich kalt und wir haben eine Tonne Schnee. Wir sind glaube ich 2 cm von einem Rekord von 25 Jahren entfernt. Heute morgen war es wieder -18 Grad. Echt furchtbar!
